Honest question: how much money exactly does it take to get a movie into 1,00/1,500 theaters? It seems a lot of these small companies are gambling with this kind of releases, but with almost no ad spend. Is it worth it putting a $5 million movie in 1,500 theaters with no stars and no TV ad campaign?
Good question. A lot of these movies don't even report box office. Audrey's Children didn't and that was supposed to be a fairly wide release (at least according to them, theater count was never reported). At least I know Screamboat is a real movie release from the same company behind Terrifier 3, but as I've said on X, we've reached the "throw as much shit against the wall i.e. the theaters to see what sticks" era of film distribution.
