My first interview of the week is with Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar, who co-wrote the new Netflix film, Train Dreams, with Bentley directing. You might know these guys’ names from their Oscar-nominated screenplay for Sing Sing, starring Colman Domingo, but this is a very different movie.
It stars Joel Edgerton (Loving, The Boys in the Boat) as Robert Grainier, a logger who spends his time during the early 1900s building the train tracks and logging, while dealing with all sort of personal tragedies. It co-stars Felicity Jones as his wife and William H. Macy as one of his friends and confidantes, as well as Kerry Condon, Clifton Collins Jr, and Paul Schneider.
I had a nice long interview with Clint and Greg that you can watch in the player above or on my YouTube channel, discussing how this project came about, how they split the duties while making movies, especially with the overlap between Train Dreams with Sing Sing. Of course, we talked about Joel and some of the other cast, as well as finding the amazing outdoor locations that makes this such a beautiful cinematic film on par with the films of Terrence Malick. I hope you enjoy our conversation!
Train Dreams is now available to watch via streaming, only on Netflix.
