My latest video review is for the Japanese psychological thriller, Exit 8, directed by Genki Kawamura, which will be released by Neon on April 10.
It’s based on the video game from developer KOTAKE CREATE and stars Kazunari Ninomiya as a man trying to exit a subway station, who gets trapped in a time loop, where he has to follow very specific instructions in order to escape.
Although it’s not necessarily a horror film, it certainly has horror elements, following in line with classics like Cube and the Escape Room, movies where puzzles need to be solved in order to escape certain death.
Although I’ve never played the video game, and didn’t even realize this was based on one while I watched, the clever twists instilled into this quizzical thriller makes it a must-watch for genre fans.
Rating: 7.5/10
Exit 8 will be released nationwide on April 10, and I hope to have an interview with the director very soon.
