That's kind of the point though. I feel like you didn't know this going into it. I'm curious if you took the time and watched through Kane's entire series on YouTube and then went back and watched this, if you'd rate it any higher. He warned us long ago we weren't going to get answers in the movie. That's yet to come and he plans to continue the series yet on his own. The movie is like part 15 to his overarching narrative
Yeah, but I strongly believe that every movie should stand on its own. You shouldn't have to know any of the backstory, have seen any of the episodes, heck, you shouldn't even have to know that "YouTube" exists. I had no intention of watching The Amazing Digital Circus, but that is in fact a continuation/conclusion of the series... it really didn't look like something I need to see even though I have one friend who is so excited to see this. I did try to watch some episodes of Kane Parsons' series actually.
And I have to say that this was EXACTLY the case with The Mandalorian and Grogu. I had seen a few episodes but I never felt like I had to watch all three seasons of the show. It was a standalone.
Liminal horror is basically fear of purgatory, of the in-between. It’s unstable and unmoored, and possibly goes on for infinity. There’s actually a term for fear of infinity: apeirophobia. The human mind desires closure and I think that’s the main existentialism at play in The Backrooms.

Thanks for the info... I kinda liked the dream-like nature of the movie... but most of my dreams get a 6/10, too :)
