Going to be trying a few new things now that I’ve shifted over to Substack, and one thing I really need to do more of is interacting with the people who click and read this column each week. The comments system here on Substack is just a lot more evolved than on Tumblr, which I probably just used for my blog, because that was easy to set up, but it was clearly time to move on.
So using the comments below, let me know what you like about the Weekend Warrior column, what you hate, what you’d like to see more of and what you don’t need to see so much of.
For instance, if you just come here to check out my predictions and immediately scroll down to the Top 10, let me know. Should I put that at the top, or should I just leave it where it is so maybe you’ll read my thoughts and analysis?
Do you like having so many reviews? Are you only reading this column for the reviews? Is it helpful to include as much streaming and limited releases in the column or are you mainly interested in the wider releases?
Is the repertory stuff of interest at all?
A lot of this probably has to do with where you’re based, because if you’re in New York City, you certainly will get more out of this preview column than if you’re elsewhere, especially for rep and limited releases.
Anyway, talk to me! Let’s have a conversation! I’ve been doing this for 20 years at various outlets, and it’s obviously that things need to change if this column is going to evolve and improve.
And if you’re someone with a lot of spare money who wants to help me get the Weekend Warrior and some of my other ideas out to more people, then let me know that, too!
I try to read the whole thing because of the effort and time you put into it. I only follow a select group of independent critics so I try to read their work. I do like box office analysis and take a keener eye to the wide releases as much as anything because that’s what time I have to actually see myself.
